Paul Gschwendtner b5ab7aff43 refactor: add override keyword to members implementing abstract declarations (#42512)
In combination with the TS `noImplicitOverride` compatibility changes,
we also want to follow the best-practice of adding `override` to
members which are implemented as part of abstract classes. This
commit fixes all instances which will be flagged as part of the
custom `no-implicit-override-abstract` TSLint rule.

ranges on `typescript` for the compiler CLI and for the Bazel
package. Tests for new TypeScript features have been added to
ensure compatibility with Angular's ngtsc compiler.

Kristiyan Kostadinov aa0e54fe97 fix(core): error if DebugRenderer2.destroyNode is called twice in a row (#41565)
Fixes an error that will be thrown if `DebugRenderer2.destroyNode` is called with a node that has already been destroyed. The error happened, because we had a non-null assertion, even though the value can be null.

Note that this fix applies only to ViewEngine, because Ivy doesn't provide the `DebugRenderer2`. I decided to resolve it, because it fix is straightforward and this error has been showing up in our logs for a long time now, making actual errors harder to find.

cexbrayat e12d9dec64 fix(core): remove duplicated EMPTY_ARRAY constant (#40991)
The codebase currently contains several `EMPTY_ARRAY` constants,
and they can end up in the bundle of an application.
A recent commit 6fbe219 tipped us off
as it introduced several `noop` occurrences in the golden symbol files.
After investigating with @petebacondarwin,
we decided to remove the duplicated symbols.

This probably shaves only a few bytes,
but this commit removes the duplicated functions,
by always using the one in `core/src/utils/empty`.

Kristiyan Kostadinov a3e17190e7 fix(core): allow EmbeddedViewRef context to be updated (#40360)
Currently `EmbeddedViewRef.context` is read-only which means that the only way to update
it is to mutate the object which can lead to some undesirable outcomes if the template
and the context are provided by an external consumer (see #24515).

These changes make the property writeable since there doesn't appear to be a specific
reason why it was readonly to begin with.

Misko Hevery e32b6256ce fix(core): QueryList should not fire changes if the underlying list did not change. (#40091)
Previous implementation would fire changes `QueryList.changes.subscribe`
whenever the `QueryList` was recomputed. This resulted in artificially
high number of change notifications, as it is possible that recomputing
`QueryList` results in the same list. When the `QueryList` gets recomputed
is an implementation detail and it should not be the thing which determines
how often change event should fire.

This change introduces a new `emitDistinctChangesOnly` option for
`ContentChildren` and `ViewChildren`.

```
export class QueryCompWithStrictChangeEmitParent {
  @ContentChildren('foo', {
    // This option will become the default in the future
    emitDistinctChangesOnly: true,
  })
Misko Hevery 47d9b6d72d fix(core): fix possible XSS attack in development through SSR. (#40136)
Escape the content of the strings so that it can be safely inserted into a comment node.
The issue is that HTML does not specify any way to escape comment end text inside the comment.
`<!-- The way you close a comment is with "-->". -->`. Above the `"-->"` is meant to be text
not an end to the comment. This can be created programmatically through DOM APIs.
```
div.innerHTML = div.innerHTML
```
One would expect that the above code would be safe to do, but it turns out that because comment
text is not escaped, the comment may contain text which will prematurely close the comment
opening up the application for XSS attack. (In SSR we programmatically create comment nodes which
may contain such text and expect them to be safe.)
This function escapes the comment text by looking for the closing char sequence `-->` and replace
it with `-_-_>` where the `_` is a zero width space `\u200B`. The result is that if a comment
contains `-->` text it will render normally but it will not cause the HTML parser to close the
comment.
Andrew Scott 4456e7e4de refactor(core): remove looseIdentical in favor of built-in Object.is (#37191)
Remove `looseIdentical` implementation and instead use the ES2015 `Object.is` in its place.
`looseIdentical(+0, -0)` => `true`
`Object.is(+0, -0)` => `false`
Other than the difference noted above, this is not be a breaking change because:
1. `looseIdentical` is a private API
2. ES2015 is listed as a mandatory polyfill in the [browser support
3. Also note that `Ivy` already uses `Object.is` in `bindingUpdated`.
Miško Hevery 2e4d17f3a9 perf(core): make sanitization tree-shakable in Ivy mode (#31934)
In VE the `Sanitizer` is always available in `BrowserModule` because the VE retrieves it using injection.
In Ivy the injection is optional and we have instructions instead of component definition arrays. The implication of this is that in Ivy the instructions can pull in the sanitizer only when they are working with a property which is known to be unsafe. Because the Injection is optional this works even if no Sanitizer is present. So in Ivy we first use the sanitizer which is pulled in by the instruction, unless one is available through the `Injector` then we use that one instead.
This PR does few things:
1) It makes `Sanitizer` optional in Ivy.
2) It makes `DomSanitizer` tree shakable.
3) It aligns the semantics of Ivy `Sanitizer` with that of the Ivy sanitization rules.
4) It refactors `DomSanitizer` to use same functions as Ivy sanitization for consistency.
Ben Lesh d7eaae6f22 refactor(ivy): Move instructions back to ɵɵ (#30546)
There is an encoding issue with using delta `Δ`, where the browser will attempt to detect the file encoding if the character set is not explicitly declared on a `<script/>` tag, and Chrome will find the `Δ` character and decide it is window-1252 encoding, which misinterprets the `Δ` character to be some other character that is not a valid JS identifier character
Alan Agius 4bde40f7c2 fix(core): don't include a local EventListener in typings (#29809)
With dts bundles, `core.d.ts` will include an `EventListener` class as it's used in https://github.com/angular/angular/blob/303eae918d997070a36b523ddc97e018f622c258/packages/core/src/debug/debug_node.ts#L32
This will conflict with the DOM EventListener, as anything in `core.d.ts` which is using the DOM EventListener will fallback in using the one defined in the same module and hence build will fail because their implementation is different.
With this change, we rename the local `EventListener` to `DebugEventListener`, the later one is non exported.
Benedikt Meurer 9af18c2fd0 perf(core): be more consistent about typeof checks (#28400)
When testing whether `value` is an object, use the ideal sequence of
strictly not equal to `null` followed by `typeof value === 'object'`
consistently. Specifically there's no point in using double equal with
`null` since `undefined` is ruled out by the `typeof` check.
Also avoid the unnecessary ToBoolean check on `value.ngOnDestroy` in
`hasOnDestroy()`, since the `typeof value.ngOnDestroy === 'function'`
will only let closures pass and all closures are truish (with the
notable exception of `document.all`, but that shouldn't be relevant
for the `ngOnDestroy` hook).
Misko Hevery fca185e191 refactor(ivy): create Injector interface; remove dependency on Ivy (#28066)
This change is a prerequasity for a later change which will turn the
'di' into its own bazel package. In order to do that we have to:
- have `Injector` type be importable by Ivy. This means that we need
  to create `Injector` as a pure type in `interface` folder which is
  already a bazel package which Ivy can depend on.
- Remove the dependency of `class Injector` on Ivy so that it can be
  compiled in isolation. We do that by using `-1` as special value for
  `__NG_ELEMENT_ID__` which tells the Ivy `NodeInjector` than
  `Injector` is being requested.
BREAKING CHANGE:
The public API for `DebugNode` was accidentally too broad. This change removes
1. Public constructor. Since `DebugNode` is a way for Angular to communicate information
   on to the developer there is no reason why the developer should ever need to
   Instantiate the `DebugNode`
2. We are also removing `removeChild`, `addChild`, `insertBefore`, and `insertChildAfter`.
   All of these methods are used by Angular to constructor the correct `DebugNode` tree.
   There is no reason why the developer should ever be constructing a `DebugNode` tree
   And these methods should have never been made public.
3. All properties have been change to `readonly` since `DebugNode` is used by Angular
   to communicate to developer and there is no reason why these APIs should be writable.
While technically breaking change we don’t expect anyone to be effected by this change.
Alex Rickabaugh d4cee514f6 refactor(ivy): obviate the Bazel component of the ivy_switch (#26550)
Originally, the ivy_switch mechanism used Bazel genrules to conditionally
compile one TS file or another depending on whether ngc or ngtsc was the
selected compiler. This was done because we wanted to avoid importing
certain modules (and thus pulling them into the build) if Ivy was on or
off. This mechanism had a major drawback: ivy_switch became a bottleneck
in the import graph, as it both imports from many places in the codebase
and is imported by many modules in the codebase. This frequently resulted
in cyclic imports which caused issues both with TS and Closure compilation.
It turns out ngcc needs both code paths in the bundle to perform the switch
during its operation anyway, so import switching was later abandoned. This
means that there's no real reason why the ivy_switch mechanism needed to
operate at the Bazel level, and for the ivy_switch file to be a bottleneck.
This commit removes the Bazel-level ivy_switch mechanism, and introduces
an additional TypeScript transform in ngtsc (and the pass-through tsc
compiler used for testing JIT) to perform the same operation that ngcc
does, and flip the switch during ngtsc compilation. This allows the
ivy_switch file to be removed, and the individual switches to be located
directly next to their consumers in the codebase, greatly mitigating the
circular import issues and making the mechanism much easier to use.
As part of this commit, the tag for marking switched variables was changed
from __PRE_NGCC__ to __PRE_R3__, since it's no longer just ngcc which
flips these tags. Most variables were renamed from R3_* to SWITCH_* as well,
since they're referenced mostly in render2 code.
Test strategy: existing test coverage is more than sufficient - if this
didn't work correctly it would break the hello world and todo apps.
Misko Hevery 503905c807 feat(ivy): add ngcc ivy switch (#25238)
Provides a runtime and compile time switch for ivy including
`ApplicationRef.bootstrapModule`.
This is done by naming the symbols such that `ngcc` (angular
Compatibility compiler) can rename symbols in such a way that running
`ngcc` command will switch the `@angular/core` module from `legacy` to
`ivy` mode.
This is done as follows:
```
const someToken__PRE_NGCC__ = ‘legacy mode’;
const someToken__POST_NGCC__ = ‘ivy mode’;

export someSymbol = someToken__PRE_NGCC__;
```
The `ngcc` will search for any token which ends with `__PRE_NGCC__`
and replace it with `__POST_NGCC__`. This allows the `@angular/core`
package to be rewritten to ivy mode post `ngcc` execution.
